Eric Drew has acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which is a savage cancer of the blood and bone marrow. In a healthy person bone marrow acts as a factory of stem cells but the leukemia is making the factory go haywire. Instead of producing healthy lymphocytes it is unleashing abnormal lymphocytes into the blood stream and the abnormal lymphocytes are taking over the healthy lymphocytes. Drew possesses a Philadelphia chromosome, which is a mutation that will make his cancer even more difficult to fight. He got a stem cell transplant. Even though he was sick he still got up and went to find the man that was taking his identity.  He now has to use crutches or sometimes even has to use a wheelchair because the cancer has reduced his bone marrow so much that he can walk without using them. He will never be able to walk without them for the rest of his life.

I think that being able to go through this form of cancer and going through losing your identity at the same time you would have to be very strong willed and strong minded. For some one with this form of cancer to still be going and trying to get better is an amazing thing. To be so sick and so tired all the time must be hard but for him to try to keep going and try to not let his family see how bad he must feel is very inspiring. While he is sick and in the hospital on his death bed for him to still get up to go find the man that stole his identity it makes me think that you should really never give up until its completely over and than you should look at it like its a new beginning instead of the end.

A new research suggests that a person's blood could someday provide replacement cells for that individual's damaged brain or liver.  Human blood contains so-called stem cells that can be transformed outside the body into a variety of cell types. This unexpected, and accident, discovery may add a new element to the politicized debate over whether stem cells that persist in adults can match the therapeutic potential of stem cells derived from human embryos.

I think that this new discovery may be helpful to many people. It may help for people that have a damaged brain or liver get better. If I had damage to my brain or liver I would use this new research to help my damaged brain or liver.

An Ecological Leap

Some people are having heated arguments about what is healthy and eco-friendly. Some people say vegetarians and vegans are the most healthy. They have decided that people in Australia need to replace cattle meat with kangaroo meat.

I don't think I could eat kangaroo meat because with me when I know it is an animal that I like and that I have never eaten before I can't eat it. I can't eat snake or rabbit either because of the same reason. I think that it is a good reason though to try to keep the environment safe.

Real Bionic Woman

A woman was in a motorcycle accident and her left arm had to be amputated and she had to get a prosthetic arm. The new arm she was outfitted with at first wouldn't move or anything. She went in and had a surgery to get nerves in her chest that will not only let her have motor skills in her arm but also her sensation nerves.

I think that this is really cool because now she can lead a normal life just like anyone else. If I had a prosthetic arm then I would be willing to go get the surgery. I think that she is very lucky that it turned out like it did it could have been much worse.
